Barbara J. Jensen, 71, of Williamsburg, previously of Oxford, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at her home. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Kloster Funeral Home, in Marengo. Private graveside services will be held in Oxford Cemetery, in Oxford, with Pastor Randy Harker officiating. A memorial fund has been established.
Barb is survived by her three children, Adam (Jeri) Grabin, Charles Jensen and Alec Jensen; two grandchildren, Wesley and Hannah Grabin; and four siblings, Donald (Terrie) Simonson, John (Linda) Simonson, Becky (Patrick) Burns and Robert (Carol) Simonson. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth in 2008 and a son Christopher Grabin.
Barbara Jean Simonson was born March 29, 1952, in Iowa City. She is the daughter of the late Wendall and Alice (Johnson) Simonson. Barb graduated in 1970 from Clear Creek High School. She continued her education attending Paris Academy for Cosmetology, and later attended Kirkwood Community College, receiving her degree as a registered nurse. She was united in marriage to Lee Grabin in 1971, and the couple later divorced. Barb worked at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City as an aide and LPN. In 1973, she started working at the University of Iowa Hospital while attending Kirkwood. After receiving her degree, Barb continued to work at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, as a RN and OB educator for 25 years. On April 7, 1984, she married Kenneth Jensen in the city park in Iowa City. Barb was a member of Hands of Christ Church in Oxford. She traveled to Haiti on two occasions for medical mission work in the mid-1990s.
