Barbara R. Dunn, 87, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, after a brief illness. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob Rd., Olathe, Kan., where the family will receive friends an hour before service time. A private burial at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens is planned.
Barbara was born to Helen Rigdon Jennett and Gerald Rigdon of Connersville, Ind., in 1926. She graduated from Connersville High School and earned a B.S. degree from Purdue University. She and her husband, Robert, raised their family in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and then moved to the Olathe, Kan., area in 1973.
Barbara was a lifelong homemaker. She was a Master Gardener, a member and former president of the F.L. Chapter of PEO and founding member of the Christian Gathering Class of Grace United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Anne Stockman (Dave); sons, Mark Dunn (Becky) and John Dunn; six grandchildren, Olivia Stockman Splinter (Joe), Kyle Stockman (Cindy), Haley Bury (Michael), Colin Dunn (Ee), Katherine Dunn and Andrew Dunn; and four great-grandchildren, Caleb and Elijah Stockman and Penney and Johnny Bury.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Olathe Medical System or Grace United Methodist Church.
