Barbara "Barb" Joan Pospisil, 84, of Coggon, Iowa, formerly of Freeport, Ill., passed away at the home of her oldest niece, Pamela (Phillip) Slaymaker, on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. Family will greet friends and family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 28, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Barb was born July 14, 1937, the daughter of August and Wilma Jane (Thompson) Pospisil at the family home in Bertram, Iowa. When she was five years old, Barb traveled by train to the school for the deaf in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She graduated in 1957. Barb worked several jobs until she was hired at Honeywell/Micro Switch in Freeport, Ill., where she retired from after several years.
For many years, Barb was involved in the deaf community doing activities such as camping, birthday parties, picnics and conventions. She had a great love for life and her family was very dear to her. Barb will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Barbara is survived and lovingly remembered by her sister, Christine (Olie) Laugeness of Morehead, Minn.; brothers, Paul (Judy) Pospisil and Kenneth (Barb) Pospisil, both of Marion, Iowa, and Thomas (Victoria) Pospisil of West Des Moines, Iowa; four nieces; four nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Karen; brother-in-law, Arthur; and great-nephew, Blake Andrew Slaymaker.
