She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Loretta Nagel; husband, Thomas M. Azinger; brother, Bill O’Brien; sons Michael (Ziggy), Dave, and Bruce; son-in-law Terry Hagmeier; and many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Born on November 15, 1932, in Earlville, Iowa, Barb served in the Navy for two years before marrying Thomas M. Azinger of Montrose on June 19, 1954. The couple settled in Cedar Rapids in 1955, where they raised their family and became part of a close-knit community. Barb was a strong parishioner of St. Jude’s and spent many hours giving back to the church.
Barb was a powerful presence and a fierce champion of the people she loved. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel seen, celebrated, and deeply cared for. Whether she was cheering on her family at a ballgame, casting a line on the lake with Tom and the in-laws, celebrating her grandchildren’s artistic endeavors, or holding court over a lively game of cards, Barb brought unfiltered joy and an easy warmth to every room. Her rambunctious spirit and boundless love will be dearly missed — but we can only imagine the celebration she’s sparked on the other side.
