BARBARA "BARB" A. UNZEITIG
Cedar Rapids
Barbara "Barb" A. Unzeitig of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at the age of 80.
A private family funeral service will be held on Jan. 19 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Father Douglas Loecke presiding. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Barbara was born on Aug. 3, 1941, to Dr. Richard and Alice Bausch in St Louis, Mo. The family moved to Cedar Rapids after the end of World War II. She graduated from Washington High School in 1959 and later attended the University of Iowa, graduating in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in political science.
Barbara and David met at a social event. On that day, David had a tough time as he injured his ankle playing volleyball, but things turned for the better as he met Barbara and never left her side since. They married in 1966 in Cedar Rapids and joyously raised their two children.
She was an avid and eclectic reader and passionate about golfing and bowling - she achieved an impressive 700 series in 1980. Barbara also loved gardening, needlepointing, engaging with puzzles, and traveling. She and David went fishing together every year for 50 years to wonderful locations in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Florida. She adored her dogs and the love that they brought to the family.
Barbara will be dearly missed by her husband, David Unzeitig of Cedar Rapids; her children, Jim of Cedar Rapids and Elizabeth and her husband Emanuele Mora of Chicago, Ill.; her grandchildren, Francesca and Andrew Mora; her brothers, Robert Bausch of Chevy Chase, Md., and Thomas Bausch and his wife Jean of Marion; and four nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that any memorial contributions be made to Cedar Valley Humane Society in Cedar Rapids.
Online condolences may be directed to the family at www.cedarmemorial.com under Obituaries.
