Banse, Lorna Idella
Lorna Idella Banse, 92, of Vinton, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at the Vinton Lutheran Home. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at the Vinton Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Ron Sumption officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Lorna was born Nov. 8, 1918, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Roy Milton and Harriet Maza (Wyckoff) Dunston. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton in 1936. On June 16, 1943, Lorna was united in marriage with Samuel Freeman Banse at the “Little Church Around the Corner” in New York City. The couple lived in Illinois for a short time before making Vinton their home. He preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1983.
Lorna was a past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star and served as chaplain of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the Vinton Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon.
Lorna is survived by one son, Thomas (Bonnie) Banse of Strawberry Point; one sister, Janelle Beresford of Vinton; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Troy and Melissa Banse and their children, Grace, Allison, Lydia and Noah of Mankato, Minn., Chris and Tanya Banse and their children, Kinnick and Mason of Cedar Rapids, Andy and Lisa Banse of Boalsberg, Pa., Molly and Bob Mosinski of Fairfield and Matt Banse of Iowa City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Lyle Dunston.
A memorial fund has been established.
