Bangtson, Edward Willard
Edward Willard Bangtson, 81, died peacefully at his home Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, surrounded by his family. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in North Liberty, with the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Military honors will follow the service. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lensing's Oak Hill Funeral Service in Coralville. Burial will be at a later date.
Ed was born May 9, 1930, near Rockwell City, Iowa, where he was a 1948 graduate of Rockwell City High School. He served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. On Dec. 24, 1985, Ed married Chris.
Ed is survived by his wife, Chris; three children and three stepchildren, David Bangtson (Eileen) of Story City, Allan Bangtson (Pam) of Cedar Falls, Jeanne Krebs (Bill) of Manson, Laura (Bob) Koci of Clive, Keith (Donna) Brown of Hebron, Ky., Todd Brown of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Matt (Sarah) and Adam Bangtson, Amy and Michael Bangtson, Anntonette, Marissa, Bryce and Isabella Koci, Abigail and Alden Brown; two great-grandchildren, Isaac and Audrey Bangtson; two brothers, Orville (Lois) of Rockwell City and Dennis of Denver, Colo.; brother and sister in-in-law, Dale Heim and Doris Bangtson of Rockwell City; many nieces and nephews; and former spouse, Norma Jacobs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Algodt and Ellen Marie Bangtson; siblings, Alice Heim, Darlene Brooks and Art Bangtson; brother-in-law, Wendall Brooks; and three infant sisters.
He was known and recognized for his wonderful bass voice and sang at many weddings, funerals and other events throughout his life. Ed was a member of the Fort Dodge Civic Glee Club, The Manson Meridian Singers and church choirs.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Church in North Liberty. He was always very active in his church and was a member of many committees and of course the choir.
During his life he had several vocations, which were mainly centered around helping people.
He was very active as a Boy Scout leader for many years and was awarded the Lamb Award through the church for his work in scouting.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hospice Compassus or for Disabled Veterans.
