Balvin, Robert Donald
Robert Donald Balvin, 78, of Tama, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Stayskal Cemetery, rural Vining, with military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Robert was born Feb. 6, 1934, in rural Clutier, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Emma (Dolash) Balvin. He graduated from Toledo High School in 1952. Robert served his country in the U.S. Navy, retiring after 20 years of service. He worked at the Tama-Toledo Country Club for many years.
Robert was a member of the Tama-Toledo Lions Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Richard Balvin; and one sister, Ruth Balvin in infancy.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Darlene Balvin of Chelsea; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
A memorial fund has been established.
