Ball, Mona Quint
Mona Quint Ball of Iowa City passed away peacefully, with her husband and sister at her side, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012. Mona had a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Her body was donated to The University of Iowa College of Medicine for scientific purposes. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Iowa City, where the family will greet friends from noon to 2 p.m.
Mona was born July 13, 1949, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Mary Ann (Connolly) Quint. She graduated from East Buchanan High School in 1967 and the University of Northern Iowa in 1971, with a B. A. degree in elementary special education. In 1972, she earned her M. A. degree in special education at UNI. She married Terrill “Terry” Ball of Fredericksburg, Iowa, on Aug. 25, 1973, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown.
Mona was a 40-year teacher primarily in the Iowa City Community School system as an elementary special education teacher and retired in 2012.
Mona was an active member at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hills as organist/keyboardist. Mona's favorite activities included teaching, praying, walking and playing music.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, family and close friends.
Survivors include her husband, Terry Ball of Iowa City; her mother, Mary Ann Quint of Ames; brother, David (Kathy) Quint of London, England, and their children, Jennifer (Tony), Angela (Peter), David (Emma) and Geoffrey (Laura); sister, Angela (Jim) Nespor of Ames, and their children, Quinton and Monique; and sister-in-law, Catherine (John) Ries of Elma, and their children, Janae (Jim), Mark (Joanne), Deb and Kent (Natalie).
She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Quint.
In lieu of flowers, the Mona Ball Memorial Fund has been established c/o Box167, Iowa City, IA 52244.
