Baldwin, Leonard A.

Leonard A. Baldwin, 90, of Country View Senior Residence in North Liberty, formerly of Jesup, died of natural causes Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at Mercy Iowa City. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 207 Franklin St., Waterloo, with Pastor Gerald Kapanka officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Public visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at White Funeral Home in Jesup. The casket will not be open at the church.

Mr. Baldwin is survived by his children: three sons, Denis and (Linda) Baldwin of San Diego, Calif., Larry and (Rhoda) Baldwin of Jesup and Ron Baldwin of Jesup; one daughter, Gloria and (Dan) Holderness of Coralville; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Frances, who died Aug. 25, 1995, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Edward and Gerhardt Baldwin; and one sister, Esther Baldwin.

He was born Oct. 14, 1918, at Paullina, Iowa, the son of John Baldwin and Louise (Lemke) Baldwin. On June 21, 1942, he was united in marriage to Frances May Lange at Grace Lutheran Church, Jesup. He worked 30+ years at John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo, retiring in 1975, and also farmed. He enjoyed many years of retirement, gardening, riding bicycle, and traveling to visit his children and grandchildren.
