Baker, Marianne E.
Marianne E. Baker, 81, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at the Anamosa Care Center. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. The Rev. Lloyd Eaken will officiate at the service. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Anamosa. Interment will be at a later date.
Surviving are her husband Arthur; children, Arthur C. (Charlie) Baker of Anamosa, Steven Ray (Jorgeanne) Baker of Tucson, Ariz., Daniel E. (Linda) Baker of Tucson, Austin B. (Christine) Baker of Anamosa and Carol Anne (Dale) Phelps of Tucson; a sister, Susan (Herb) Sams of Tucson; a brother, Dale (Connie) Young of Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Iris Young of Anamosa; 10 grandchildren, Joe, Lee, Josh, Sarah, Jennifer, Jerome, Andy, Cliff, Hannah and Eleora; and 11 great-grandchildren, Ronnie, Cheyenne, Haven, Jimmy, Levi, Austin, Alyssa, Rodrick, Kayla, Tyler and Emily.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Harlan Young.
Marianne Baker was born May 3, 1930, in Anamosa, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford and Lola (Hakes) Young. On Nov. 1, 1947, Marianne and Arthur Baker were united in marriage at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Anamosa. Marianne worked for more than 20 years at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids.
She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church for more than 50 years and the West Ajo Baptist Church in Arizona for more than 25 years. Marianne and Arthur enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona for the last 25 years.
She enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning and playing dominoes, but what she treasured most was the time she was given to spend with her family and friends.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and will be missed dearly by those closest to her.
