Baker, Joyce A.
Joyce A. Baker, 77, of Mabel, Minn., died unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at her home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Burr Oak Lutheran Church, Burr Oak, Iowa, with the Rev. Matt Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mengis Funeral Home, Mabel, and one hour before to services Thursday at the church.
Joyce was born Feb. 3, 1933, in Ossian, Iowa, to William and Vivian (Peyer) Breitsprecher. She graduated from the Canton High School in 1952. Later that year she married Donald H. Baker in Burr Oak. They lived in Hesper, Iowa, and then in 1965, they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Joyce did day care in their home, did painting and staining and worked at Wessel's Carpet in Cedar Rapids. They retired in 1996 and moved to Mabel, Minn. Don later passed away on Feb. 19, 2009. She enjoyed cross stitch, playing cards, camping and spending time with her family.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Joyce is survived by three daughters, Sandy (David) Ott of Cedar Rapids, Debbie (Dean) Archer of Swisher, and Tammy (Bryan) Willcoxson of Onalaska, Wis.; a son, Todd (Angie) of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bob (Eileen) Breitsprecher, Jerry Breitsprecher and Miles Breitsprecher; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
