Bailey, Thomas E.
Thomas E. Bailey, 79, of Marion, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha from complications of C.O.P.D. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. Jack Kendall. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Diana; his children, Debra (Chuck) Finn of Amity, Ore., Lindley (Ellen) Bailey of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Rashelle (Jeff) Frasher of Fairfax, Iowa, Roxie (David) Davis of Marion and Scott (Debbie) Bailey of Dallas, Ga.; a brother, Richard (Beth) Bailey of Denver, Colo.; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Bailey of LaVerne, Ala. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a Godchild, Kelsey Comp.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Eugene Bailey Jr.; and his brother, Kenneth Bailey.
Thomas was born Feb. 8, 1931, in Barnsville, Ohio, the son of Harman and Trenna (Shipley) Bailey. He married Diana Kay Semelroth on Jan. 15, 1971, in Cedar Rapids. Thomas was a driver for Mid American, retiring in 1995, and AW Schmidt. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, VFW, American Legion and the Teamsters Retirees. He enjoyed wintering in Texas, reading, gardening, playing cards and tinkering around the house. He had great joy spending time with his grandchildren and family.
