Bahwell, Richard H.
Richard H. Bahwell, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Richard Harlan Bahwell was born July 15, 1930, to Theodore and Vida (Seeger) Bahwell in Savanna, Ill. He was united in marriage to Lois Brown on Aug. 25, 1956. She passed away in March 2001. Rich proudly served in the U.S. Army from March 1953 to 1955. He taught psychology at Coe College from 1965-1995. In 1968, Richard was named director of Coe's Upward Bound program. In 1970, he became director of Coe's Advising and Counseling Center. Before he came to Coe, he was in Illinois working in various phases of clinical psychology. His positions included the following: psychologist at Southern Illinois Mental Health Center in Murphysboro, research associate at the Behavior Research Laboratory in Anna, clinical psychology intern at Anna State Hospital, and was a lecturer at Southern Illinois University's Rehabilitation Institute in Carbondale.
He is survived by his son, David Bahwell of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Theo (James) Baustert of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother, Stan Bahwell of Elgin, Ill.; and a favorite granddog, Merlin.
Rich was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; and parents.
