Babinat, Melvin Anton
Melvin Anton Babinat, 83, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at Cedar Valley Hospice due to complications of stroke.
Services will take place Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Fairbank. The Rev. Harry Koelker will be officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. with parish rosary at 3:30 p.m., and Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m., Scripture Service at 7 p.m. all at Woods Funeral Home. Military graveside service by Fairbank American Legion, Fortsch-Duffy Post 552. Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Fairbank.
He is survived by his Wife, Bernice; (ten children; Michael (Debra) Babinat, Cedar Falls; Barbara (Dale) Wille, Waterloo, Judy (David) Kolbeck, Waterloo; Yvonne (Edward) Smith, Marion; Ronald (Lori) Babinat, Waterloo; James (Sally) Babinat, Big Bend, Wis.; Eugene (Jo) Babinat, Sour Lake, Texas.; Jane (Fred) Weber, Jesup; Helen (Alan) Heitz, Aurora; Kenneth (Tracy) Babinat, Rocklin, Calif., 18 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. Two brothers: Francis Babinat, Reinbeck and Adolph Babinat, Hudson and one sister, Mary Ann Bryon of Princeton, Miss.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Edward, John and Siemon, and one granddaughter, Jennifer Babinat.
Melvin was a retired farmer, born Jan. 17, 1926, in Voorhies, the son of Adolph Albert Babinat & Marie Clara (Svoboda) Babinat. He married Bernice (Federspiel) on Sept. 28, 1948, in Gilbertville.
He was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Army, and member of the Fairbank American Legion, Fortsch-Duffy Post 552, Catholic Workman Society, and Knights of Columbus, Council # 11161.
