B. JOYCE ZENOR
Mount Vernon
B. Joyce Zenor, 83, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Aug. 4, 2018.
Joyce was born July 22, 1935, in Arlington, Iowa, to Walter and Helen Cordes. Hard work, family and education were instilled while growing up on the family farm. Joyce obtained her teaching certificate from Upper Iowa University and later a B.S. at the University of Iowa. She enjoyed teaching in numerous communities and developed lifelong friendships with fellow beginning teachers.
Joyce was united in marriage to Larry on Aug. 19, 1956, and supported his career with numerous moves throughout the country. Joyce developed a love for auctions and restoring furniture, and eventually opened antique stores in the numerous communities. In retirement, she opened a bed and breakfast in Mount Vernon and enjoyed meeting new people. She and Larry became avid Hawkeye wrestling fans, never missing a home meet or national tournament. Joyce loved to play bridge, either couples or in ladies' groups, throughout the years. Golf, PEO and Dillon's Furrow were joys for Joyce, as were her grandkids, where she and Larry would attend every event possible and beam with pride.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her parents; and a brother, John (Lori) Cordes.
Joyce is survived by daughter, Marlys (Clay) Kraus; son, Mark (Ginger) Zenor; grandchildren, Alex and Walt Zenor; sister, Jean (Max) Fitz; and sister-in-law, Jean (Bill) Clark.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall.
