B. David Wright, 68, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 17, 2023, in his home. A family prayer service will be from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Hope Lutheran Church, as well as visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. for friends and family. A family dinner will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m., all at the church. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
David was April 19, 1955, in Muscatine, the son of Dempsey and Ione (McCombs) Wright. He graduated from Muscatine High School. David was united in marriage to Mary Paxton on Dec. 17, 2016. He enjoyed singing karaoke, spending time with his kids and grandkids. He was a very smart man, but only the people who knew him well, realized it. He could tell the dumbest jokes. Then just laugh and laugh, following it up with, “I made that up myself,” made you laugh along with him. He really loved cats. It was not unusual for all three of our cats to be sitting on his lap on the recliner. He especially enjoyed family and get-togethers, where he could see a lot of family at once.
He will be truly missed. He was one of a kind.
David is survived by his wife Mary; his daughters Trisha Wright and Charity Wright; stepdaughter Cody Paxton; eight grandchildren; his sister Luchea Strohm and Laurie (Harry) Black; his brother Chris Robbins; his sister-in-law Donetta Walters; his brother-in-law Bobby (Sheryl) Paxton; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to family, or to the American Cancer Society or Iowa City Hospice in his name.
