Azinger, Thomas M. 'Tom'
Thomas M. ”Tom” Azinger, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, peacefully in his home. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friends may also visit after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Tom is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Daniel, Lori (Terry) Hagmeier, Chris Keiper, Michael, David and Bruce, all of Cedar Rapids, and Julie Sanchez of Griffith, Ind.; grandchildren Brock, Ryan, Kelli, Mathew, Tony, Angela, Blair, Michelle and Brianna; great-grandchildren, Calen, Blake and Avin; brother, Richard (Mary Ann) of Dewitt; sister, Donna Tabbaa of Montrose; brother, Roy (Liz) of Mesa, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Shiela of Montrose; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Patricia; and brother, William.
Thomas Martin Azinger was born Dec. 14, 1934, in Keokuk, the son of Herman Daniel and Loretta Elizabeth Moran Azinger. He graduated from Montrose High School in 1952, and went on to play semi pro baseball. On June 19, 1954, Thomas married Barbara Ann Nagel. Tom worked at Skogman Homes for over 40 years, retiring as superintendent in 2004.
Tom loved following his children's sports activities and watching professional sports, especially the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed fishing with his sons, brothers and nephews. He is greatly loved and will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy or the Mercy Outpatient Dialysis Center.
