Austin, Pauline L. (Platner)
Pauline L. (Platner) Austin, 92, of Marion, Iowa, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2012 at her sister's home. Visitation will be on Thursday, Sept. 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Faith Bible Church, 1800 46th St. NE, Cedar Rapids.
Surviving daughters, Fran Bartleson, Nashville, Tenn., and Connie (Randy) Collins, Hewitt, Texas; son, Rickey G. (Christine) Austin, Lisbon; sisters, Glenna Whitmarsh, San Antonio, Texas, and Mary Leget, Maquoketa; brother, Allen (Marilyn) Platner, Marion; grandchildren, Kyle (Carole) Bartleson, Lawrenceville, Ga., Dorian McCollam, Nashville, Tenn., Ian Jon Austin, Lisbon, Aaron (Kristina) Austin, Marion, Trina (Wade) Morrow, Carrie Rome, and Samantha Collins, Hewitt, Texas; 11 great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, George on Jan. 13, 1997; a son, Rodney Dewayne Austin; brother, Glenn Wayne Platner; sister, Harriet Caraway; brothers- in-law, George H. Caraway, Duane Whitmarsh and Eugene Leget; and parents.
Born the daughter of Glenn and Marie (Stoneking) Platner, Dec. 15, 1919, Mount Vernon, Iowa. Graduated Alburnett Consolidated School; married George W. Austin, Feb. 19, 1939; and attended Faith Bible Church.
Among her many interests was a passion for genealogy, concentrating on Platner, Austin, Lange, Stoneking, Clymer, Rundall and Peterson families. Pauline was awarded the Eagle award from the Austin's of America Genealogical Society and the Rundall-Rundle Family of America award for her work.
Memorial may be made to Faith Bible Church or Camp Courageous in Pauline's name.
