Augustine, Hazel E.

Hazel E. Augustine, 91, a resident of Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of Center Point, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at the care center. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. John Caughron. Family will greet friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her daughter, Oma (John) Roberts of Center Point; sister, Mavis Kratzer of Center Point; many nieces and nephews; two step grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, “Ted”; sister, Norma Rick, and brother-in-law, Paul Rick; brother-in-law, Everett Kratzer; nephew, Ron Kratzer; and two step grandchildren.

Hazel was born March 2, 1918, the daughter of Frank and Clara (Boyles) Allbones in Urbana. On March 27, 1937, she was united in marriage to Arnold “Ted” Augustine. He died March 8, 2008. A homemaker and waitress, Hazel enjoyed the many visits from friends, relatives and especially her niece, Marilyn and Marilyn's two grandchildren. She also enjoyed camping, fishing and crafts. Hazel was a 65-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 297.
