AUGUST HOLMQUIST Cedar Rapids August J. "Augie" Holmquist, 67, of Cocoa, Fla., passed away March 12, 2015, at his home. He was born Feb. 25, 1948, in Osage, Iowa, to August F. and Mary (Toye) Holmquist. Augie graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Kirkwood Community College. He also graduated from radio school in Chicago and Sarasota, Fla. He hosted popular radio shows in Cedar Rapids and Milbank, S.D. Augie is survived by his wife of 24 years, JoAnn (Searcy) Holmquist; sons, Jeremy (Beth) Bertsch, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Joshua Bertsch, Cape Canaveral, Fla.; granddaughters, Abigail and Sophia Bertsch, Palm Beach Gardens; and his brothers, Paul (Sandy) Holmquist, John Holmquist and Joe Holmquist, all of Cedar Rapids. Augie was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Natalie (Schmieg) Holmquist. A memorial service will be held in Milbank, S.D., at 2 p.m. May 16 at Living Word Lutheran Church. Augie was beloved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
