Audrey Thompson, 87, of Marion, passed away Friday, Feb. 26, 2021, at the St. Luke's Hospice Unit after a brief fight with cancer. A private family funeral service will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for Audrey, under the video tab, starting at 1 p.m. Friday, March 5.
Audrey Lucille Altenberg was born Dec. 14, 1933, the daughter of Roy and Myrtle Altenberg. Audrey graduated from Marion High School in 1952, where she met her high school sweetheart, William Thompson. They married on May 17, 1953, and had four children, Ricky, Melissa, Zachary and Samantha. Audrey helped Bill run their business, Linn-Mar Construction. After 30-plus years of working in real estate, Audrey retired from Skogman Realty. She was an active member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. An active member of the community, Audrey was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She loved to be with her family and friends, some might add she was a social butterfly. She enjoyed gardening and feeding her birds.
Audrey's memories will be remembered and cherished by her husband, Bill Thompson; son, Zach (Carol) Thompson; daughter, Samantha Brown; beloved granddaughter, Ashley Beachel; great-grandsons, Ryker and Xaiden Sotomayor; and granddaughters, Cheyenne Brown and Chelsea Coons.
She was preceded in death by her son, Ricky Thompson; daughter, Melissa Antisdel; parents, Roy and Myrtle Altenburg; and brother, Ronnie Altenberg.
