Audrey June (Novak) Musel, 90, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, at Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Monday, Aug. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Audrey was born July 15, 1927, in Chelsea, Iowa, the daughter of William and Charlotte (Kenner) Novak.
Audrey graduated from Chelsea High School. After high school she worked as a stenographer at California Ship Building Corp. on Terminal Island in Long Beach, Calif., which closed after the war. She then came back to Iowa and worked at Killian's Department Store in Cedar Rapids. She later worked in school kitchens and baked at Gene's SuperValu.
On June 16, 1948, she was united in marriage to Donald J. Musel in Chelsea. Audrey was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, where she was involved in CCW. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Audrey was a Den Mother in Cub Scouts when the boys were younger. She previously made quilts for the Iowa Juvenile Home in Toledo.
Audrey loved baking, quilting, sewing and jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include three children, Andrew (Bobbi) Musel of Chandler, Ariz., Cynthia (Peter) Iannelli of Boyertown, Pa., and Jeffrey (Kellye) Musel of Tama; six grandchildren, James Musel, Jennifer Skeoch, Christopher Musel, Nicholas and Mark Iannelli and Gordon Musel; four great-grandchildren with one on the way; one sister, Charlene (Jack) Avrin of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; and two nephews, Joe and Bill Avrin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Don, in 2003.
A memorial fund has been established.
