Audrey Jean Michel Loan was born April 28, 1931, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Fredrick Lowell and Elsie Mae (Miller) Michel. She had one sibling, an older brother, Don. Audrey received her education in the Iowa City schools and graduated from City High in 1949.
In 1951 she married Darrell Loan in Iowa City. Three children were born to that union: Michael, Deborah and Kathy. Audrey and Darrell divorced in 1988.
In her young adult life, one of Audrey's passions was creating beautiful homes for her family in numerous locations. Career moves dictated relocations around the country to states including New York, Oklahoma, Michigan, Florida, Texas, Georgia and California. Since 1962 she has lived near Cedar Rapids on the farm the couple purchased together. She was actively involved in the family business, Blue Grass Enterprises, until she sold it to her son in 1994. Since that time she has pursued many interests. She loved sewing, was an accomplished quilter, and took great pleasure working in her yard and gardens enjoying God's great creation. Her love of God has sustained her during many trials and tribulations. Audrey was devoted to her church, St. Mark's Lutheran, and her many friends there.
Surviving Audrey are her three children, Mike (Marilyn), Deb (Doug) Sorensen and Kath (Reg) Koranda; her grandchildren, Aaron (Elise) Loan, Sarah (Chris) Nolte, Emily (Eric) Balsman, Dane (Natalie) Sorensen, Kandice (Jason) Hamilton and Kourtney (Rich) Tilden; and eight perfect great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Audrey's name be directed to St. Mark's Lutheran Church 8300 C Avenue, Marion, IA 52302.
