Audrey LaRue McIntire, 83, of Belle Plaine, Iowa, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, at Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, Iowa.
Audrey LaRue was born in Tecumseh, Neb., on Feb. 7, 1940, the daughter of Derwin and Irene (Wright) Ensor. At a young age she moved with her family to Attica, Iowa, where she graduated high school. On July 2, 1961, LaRue married Frederic McIntire in Attica.
Earning her teaching degree from Parsons College, LaRue became a home economics teacher. She began at West Harrison in Mondamin, Iowa. Becoming a mother, she transitioned to a substitute teacher, working for Fairfield, Tri County and Belle Plaine school districts. LaRue was an active member of the Keokuk County ARC (now known as Arc of East Central Iowa). She eventually settled with her family in Belle Plaine in 1984. Following her teaching career, LaRue worked at Victor Plastics until retirement.
LaRue was active in her faith at the Christ United Methodist Church, where she served in various capacities. She was a very talented seamstress. She always had a smile on her face and had a servant’s heart. She would often be found volunteering at the food pantry, Benton County Transportation, or just helping those in need.
LaRue cherished her friends and family, always supporting her grandchildren at their activities, and writing numerous notes of encouragement to those near and far.
LaRue’s family would like to thank Hiawatha Care Center for their compassionate care, and a special thank-you to Dr. Mary Anne Nelson for her personal touch she extended while caring for LaRue.
LaRue is survived by her three children, Lori McIntire of Belle Plaine, Anita (Tony) Young of Cedar Rapids, Paul (Rosa) McIntire of Hudson; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Dwight (Arleen) Ensor of Pella; sister, Dorcas Smith of Parkview; and many more nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frederic; son, John McIntire; brother, Duaine Ensor; and sister, Joyce Douglas.
Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine.
Funeral Service is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, at Christ United Methodist Church, Belle Plaine, with Pastor Don Drahos officiating.
LaRue’s body will be donated to medical science. Private burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences can be set to the family at www.neuhausfuneralservice.com.
