Atwater, Kenneth James
Kenneth James Atwater, 63, of Manchester, passed away Dec. 27, 2013, surrounded by his family at his home. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at Immaculate Conception Church in Masonville. Visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Manchester, with a 7:30 p.m. Scripture service. Burial will be at Silver Creek Cemetery, Robinson, Iowa.
Kenneth was born May 24, 1950, in Cedar Rapids to Harold and Inez (Zenisek) Atwater. He graduated from Center Point High School in 1968. On Nov. 13, 1974, he was united in marriage to Patricia Ann McDowell in Masonville.
Kenneth served in the United States Army and was an active member of Ryan American Legion Post 692. He was a lifetime farmer. He also enjoyed metal fabricating, woodworking, attending auctions and also talking on the CB and Ham radios.
He was a member of the Delaware Fair board for nine years. His pride and joy were his grandchildren and spending time with family and friends.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Patricia, of 39 years; three children, Vicki (Dave) Fisher of Tennessee, Alan Atwater (Meg) of Ryan and Karen (Troy) LaGrange of Swisher; grandchildren, Korbin Beatty, Kinzlee LaGrange and Owen Atwater, and a new grandbaby due in May; one brother, Donnie (Jill) Atwater of Center Point; and three sisters, Diane (Clifford) Bowers of Toddville, Marcia (Doug) Lawrence of Marion and Linda (Jim) Simon of Center Point.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents.
Special thanks to Amanda Wheeler, close family friend for the knowledge and taking great care of Kenny during his illness, and for RMC Hospice for his care while he was at home.
