Asby, David
David Asby, 74, of Solon, died Friday, May 14, 2010. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church in Cedar Rapids, where memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday. Arrangements with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 53 years, Marjorie; four sons, Rick (SueAnn) of Orange, Va., Gary of Iowa City, Tom (Jenness) of Cedar Rapids and Scott (Stacey) of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren, Tara (Andy Cavin) Asby, Ron (Amanda Stapleton) Asby, Steve Higham, Isaiah Asby, Micah Asby, Aidan Asby, Addysen Asby and Alayna Asby; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Janet Schroder of Danville, Iowa, and Mary Ann (Larry) Root of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Elliott Schroder.
David was born Aug. 12, 1935, the son of Frederick and Ethel (Bohlen) Asby, in Burlington, Iowa. On Sept. 29, 1957, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Smith in Burlington. David worked for Alliant Electric (IES), retiring in 1996. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Cedar Rapids.
