ARTHUR WARDELL Oelwein Arthur Eldon Wardell, 94, of Oelwein, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015, at Arlington Place in Oelwein. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 5, at Christ United Presbyterian Church in Oelwein with Pastor Charis Combs-Lay officiating. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein with military honors provided by the American Legion Ross Reid Post 9 of Oelwein. For condolences, please visit www.geilenfeldfh.com. Eldon was born on May 16, 1921, in Todd County, Minn., to parents Arthur Eugene and Maude (Lane) Wardell. He graduated from Maynard High School in 1938. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946. He was a Motor Machinist Mate 1st Class on the Delta Queen Pacific. On Aug. 15, 1946, he was united in marriage with Beryl Dibble at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Eldon had been employed with Wardell Chevrolet, Eldon's Conoco, Eldon's Shell and Wardell's Repair. He enjoyed taking care of his yard and garden, camping and fishing, and tinkering with anything needing repair. Left to celebrate Eldon's life are his son, Tom Wardell of Cedar Rapids; his grandson, Derek (Candice) Wardell of Cedar Rapids; his granddaughter, Kristin (Tony) Paul of Hiawatha; his great-grandchildren, Mercedes, Keaton, Braeton, Lillie, Kaden, Tanner and Lanae; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his brothers, Howard and Kenneth Wardell; and his sister, Doris Hughes.
