Armstrong, Thelma Mae
Thelma Mae Armstrong, 76, of Silvercrest of Anamosa, formerly of Springville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Silvercrest after a long illness. Services: 9 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Karen Downey Beals will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Thelma was born Feb. 12, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Fred and Clara (Brink) Walton. She graduated from high school in Alburnett and had many fond memories of girlhood friends, dances and her beloved horse, Penny.
Thelma married Lyle Armstrong on Nov. 9, 1956, in Alburnett. Lyle died in 2002. Together they raised three children,: Lee (Debra Ann Garcia) of Robins, Tammy (Kent) Mysak of Springville and Mark (Barbara Grant) of Waukon. She is also survived by a brother, Freddie (LaVerna) Walton of Pasco, Wash. Thelma leaves behind her three grandchildren, Kevin, Ross and Kylie; a great-grandchild, Tate; and her beloved cats.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Thelma loved farm life, her animals and a good card game. She was an incredible cook, baker and welcomed all to her kitchen table.
A memorial fund has been established.
