Arlene "Susie" M. Svoboda, 89, a resident of Village Ridge, Marion, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral services: 3 p.m. Monday, March 2, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. The family will greet friends two hours before the service at the funeral home on Monday. Private family graveside: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include her children, William Hutchins of Texas, George (Linda) Svoboda of Marion, Patricia Hutchins Fletcher of California, Joe (Donnette) Hutchins of Marion, Joseph (Jackie) Svoboda of Georgia, Debbie (Tim) O'Brien of Cedar Rapids and David (Teri) Svoboda of Texas; daughter-in-law, Dominique Hutchins of Marion; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and siblings, Robert (Jean) Pflughaupt of Marion, Janice (Bill) Hotle of Coggon and Mary (Leon) Lacock of Troy Mills.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George "Bud"; son, James; and sister, Dorothy.
Arlene was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Robins, the daughter of Milton and Bernice (Musser) Pflughaupt. She graduated from Marion High School and married George Svoboda on Feb. 13, 1960, in Missouri. Arlene was a secretary at Collins Radio until her retirement.
She enjoyed reading, playing solitaire, quilting, sewing and crocheting. Arlene loved cardinals and was a lifelong Packers fan. She volunteered for many years at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.
