Arlene E. Gieskieng, 89, a resident of The Meth-Wick Community, died there Saturday, July 9, 2016. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra (Jim) Kimball of Marion, Terri (Perry) Tharp of Cedar Rapids and Jackie (Kirk Talbott) Fossum of Cedar Rapids. She also is survived by nine grandchildren, Kim (Mike) Roudabush, Danielle Rouw, Nicole Shanstrom, Alicia Richards (Mark Peveto), Matt (Skye), Andy and Mike Fossum, Mike (Stacy) Tharp and Brian (Kris) Tharp; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jim Cannon.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert; a grandson, Bret Weaver; a great- grandson, Derek Box; her parents; four sisters, Betty Blackwell, Dovie Patton, Susie Borsheim and Myrle Griffin; and an infant son, Robert Clark Gieskieng.
Arlene was born Jan. 28, 1927, in Pocahontas, Ark., the daughter of Omer and Dovie Hogan Clark. She married Robert W. Gieskieng on Jan. 30, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. Robert passed away in 2007.
Arlene worked at the parking violation office for the city of Cedar Rapids for more than 20 years, retiring in 1985.
Arlene loved and enjoyed her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
The family of Arlene wish to thank the caregivers at Meth-Wick for their caring and devoted care they gave our mother during her last nine months.
