Arlene Mabel Doyle, 87, of Solon, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, at Solon Retirement Village Memory Care. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at St. John Lutheran Church in Ely. Burial will follow in
Oakland Cemetery, Solon. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon, located at 100 S. Cedar St.
Arlene was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Ely, the daughter of Charles and Mabel (Zobel) Jiroutek. She married Claire "Lefty" Doyle on Sept. 28, 1948, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Arlene raised her children and was a homemaker. Later, she sold World Book Encyclopedias and also worked at the Kirkwood Bookstore until her retirement.
She was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Dorcas Circle, and a charter member of TOPS 1012 in Ely.
Arlene enjoyed gardening, attending all the family sporting events, socializing, golfing, dancing, and most of all, the time spent with her friends and family.
Arlene is survived by her children, Patrick (Sonne) Doyle of Floyd, Jerry (Laurie) Doyle of Fairfax, Connie (Rick) Tompkins of North Liberty and Ken (Jodie) Doyle of Solon; seven grand-children; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Father Thomas Doyle of Coralville and Bud Lingel of Solon; and a sister-in-law, Carol (Roger) Hurt of Iowa City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lefty; and her sister, Doris Lingel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
