Arlene A. Holub, 88, of Center Point, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, from a short illness due to complications of COVID. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Prairieburg, Iowa, with Father Sean Smith officiating. A time of fellowship will immediately follow at BIT Brewing in Central City, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Arlene was born on November 4, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Leo and Esther (Shimerda) Heaton. She was a 1953 graduate of Central City High School. On July 20, 1954, Arlene was united in marriage to Robert M. Holub at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg. She worked at the Post Office in Prairieburg for nine years before working 20 years at Rockwell Collins. Arlene was the first woman to serve on the city council and first female mayor of Prairieburg. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Good Old Boys, and the DC Club in Central City. Above all else, she loved her family, fishing, and flowers. Arlene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Arlene is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Becky (Kevin) Shoop of Walker, Iowa, and Jan (Pat) McLaughlin of Keystone, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Glenda Holub of Millville, Iowa; grandchildren, Kene (Brianna) Shoop, Ryan (Amanda) Shoop, Jeff (Chelsea) Smith, Quinton Holub, Robert (Candice) Holub, and Justin Holub; great-grandchildren, Kylee, Kasen, Braydon, Talyn, Caedyn; sisters-in-law, Sandy Heaton of Iowa City, and Sue Grove of Florida; and her Center Point Heights family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; son, Christopher Holub; and brother, John “Jack” Heaton.
