Ardith 'Ardee' Irene Boyd Cushing
ARDITH "ARDEE" IRENE BOYD CUSHING
Iowa City
Ardith "Ardee" Irene Boyd Cushing was born to Lars and Sigrid Boyd in Rolfe, Iowa, June 20, 1924, the middle of eight children. She passed away Aug. 14 at Mercy Hospital Iowa City from a sudden illness.
After graduating from Rolfe High School, she went to Mankato Commercial College. With her degree in hand, she went to work for Regional Swine Research Laboratory in Ames, Iowa, where she met her future husband, William Cushing. They were married in August of 1947. They moved to Iowa City, Iowa, where they proceeded to start a family: Barbara (Richard) Farnsworth and Nancy (Douglas) Schnoebelen. Ardee was a stay-at-home mom until she and Bill bought English River Concentrates in Riverside, Iowa. There she was a partner and ran the office. In 1984 they sold the business and divorced. After that she worked at Memory Gardens, then was a Sorority Mom for three sororities in Iowa City. When she finally decided to leave the working field, she had lots of time playing duplicate bridge, running her own bridge club and enjoying being a grandmother and a great-grandmother.
Besides Ardee's family, she had three things she was very proud of: achieving Life Master in Bridge, winning a national bridge trophy and being a founding member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
She will be greatly missed by her two daughters and their families, Barb (Dick) and their children, Jason (Hannah) Farnsworth, Krista (Tyler) Christensen and their children, Noah and Sadie; Nancy (Doug) and their children, Alicia (John) Veencamp and their son Micah, Katie (Dhilhan) Marasinghe and their daughter, Cora, Anna (Kyle) Perkins and their daughter, Jane, John Schnoebelen and Paul Schnoebelen. She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings.
Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Private family cemetery services will be held on Saturday at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ardee's memory. To share a thought, memory or condolence, please visit the funeral home website www.gayandciha.com.
