Ardella Peterson, 94, of Olin, passed away Feb. 22, 2016, at Anamosa Care Center, Anamosa, following a short illness. A celebration of her life will be Friday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Olin, with Pastor Barb Krueger officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Lahey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Olin Cemetery.
Ardella Hamed Peterson was born Jan. 4, 1922, in Fayette, Iowa, daughter of Samuel and Sheriffe (Jabara) Hamed.
She worked at Century Engineering during World War II manufacturing aerial bomb fuses. After marrying Leo Peterson in McGregor on Dec. 20, 1947, she and her husband were in the restaurant business for five years. She worked for Lawson Insurance for a number of years and at the United States Postal Service for 27 years, retiring in 1986 as postmaster.
She was a member of Morley Methodist Church and the Olin chapter of Pythian Sisters. She was an exceptional seamstress and loved golfing, playing bridge and fishing.
She loved spending time with her family and traveling all over the country with her husband.
She is survived by her two children, Linda (Bill) Kennebeck of Trenton, Mo., and Jim (Diana) Peterson of Monticello; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Ross of Jensen Beach, Fla., Gina (Gary) Hiler of Marion and John (Jennifer) Kennebeck of Trenton, Mo.; six great- grandchildren, Hannah, Grace and Ella Kennebeck, Jordan Ross, Mason and Logan Hiler; two sisters, Amy Smelroth of Cedar Rapids and Doris Hamad of Bloomfield, Mich.; and one brother, Bob Hamed of Lakewood, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and two brothers.
She always will be missed, always loved, always remembered.
Memorials may be left in her memory at Jones Medical Regional Rehab and Morley United Methodist Church.
