Aossey, William 'Bill' David
William “Bill” David Aossey, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the VA Health Care System in Iowa City. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour before the service Friday. Burial: Prairieburg Cemetery.
Survivors include four children, Freda (David) Adams, Rose White, JoMarie Butz and David Aossey; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Schrefia Chahine of Michigan and Sylvia Glaser of Chicago; two brothers, Emmett Aossey and Mike Aossey, both of Ohio; and special children, Roger and Rose O'Brien of Riverside.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; and two sisters.
Bill was born Nov. 4, 1919, the son of Sam and Lucy (Branzin) Aossey in Quasqueton. On June 11, 1943, he married Dorothy Knapp at the First Baptist Church in Marion. She died Feb. 7, 2001. Bill served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked at Midland Forge for over 20 years.
Bill was a lifelong member of the Swisher American Legion Post No. 671 and the V.F.W. He enjoyed camping. Bill was always tinkering and fixing things, absolutely nothing was ever thrown away.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bill's memory.
