Anthony "Tony" Peter Palumbo, 96, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Manchester, died Thursday, Aug.
21, 2014, at Evergreen Estates. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Deacon Phil Saunders. Eulogist: Mark Underwood. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at the funeral home. Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Earlville, with military rites.
Survivors include his son, William J. (Tamara) Palumbo of Cedar Rapids; and a grandson, Nicholas (Shannon) Napier.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine Palumbo, in 1990; and siblings, Angelo, Daniel, Thomas, Rose, Marie and Tessie.
Tony was born March 30, 1918, in Cold Springs, N.Y., son of Joseph and Angelina (DiPaola) Palumbo. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles. Tony worked for the Air Force Space Command (NASA) in 1961 and as an income tax examiner for the Internal Revenue Service in Los Angeles. On Feb. 14, 1956, Tony was united in married to Maxine Virginia Schnittjer in Manchester, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army in California, Hawaii, the Philippines, Okinawa and Korea.
Tony was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manchester, the Academy of Science and a life member of UCLA University. His hobbies included collecting baseball cards.
He was a loving father and loved spending time with his son.
