Anthony G. “Tony” Tri, 63, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, June 9, 2024, at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Tony was born February 8, 1961, in Hastings, MN, the son of Thomas and Marlene (Dosch) Tri. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School in 1979 and obtained his associate’s degree from Kirkwood Community College.
He married Karla Kelchen on May 30, 1992, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
Tony worked as a machinist for 36 years, first at Doerfer Engineering in Cedar Falls for 16 years. He then worked at John Deere for 20 years, retiring in January 2024. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Falls, and UAW Local 838.
He was an avid bicyclist but also enjoyed hiking, fishing, and pretty much anything else outdoors. He was also very patient, caring, and compassionate. When a person talked with him, they could always tell they had his full attention, and he would be there to listen to any issue a person wanted to share. His family was the center of his world.
Tony is survived by his wife, Karla Tri of Cedar Falls; son, Tyler Tri of Cedar Falls; mother, Marlene (Howard) Rick of Walford; siblings, Tom (Corey) Tri of Belle Plaine, Teresa (Greg) Schafer of Swisher, Tim Tri of Cedar Rapids, Robbie Tri of Cedar Rapids, Renae (Dee) Hansen of Olin, Brian (Karen) Urban of Cedar Rapids, and Rich (Kiaya) Urban of Tipton; father-in-law, Carl Kelchen of Cascade; sister-in-law, Jackie (Mike) Noel of Dubuque; brother-in-law, Bryon (Carolyn) Kelchen of Cascade; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Tri, and mother-in-law, Karen Kelchen.
