Anthony Edward Helle, 89, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021, at his home. He was born on Feb. 15, 1932, in Petersburg, the son of Anton and Theresia (Nieland) Helle. Tony was raised and
educated near Colesburg. After attending school, Tony farmed with his dad.
On June 4, 1957, Tony was united in marriage to Doris Pitz at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna. Five children were born to this union. After their marriage, the couple lived for one year on the home farm before purchasing their farm outside of Edgewood. They raised their family there and lived on the farm for 63 years.
Tony was a longtime member of St. Mark Catholic Church. He loved to garden and work the land. Tony and Doris owned and operated the Dairy Sweet for 16 years. He also sold Kussmaul Seed. Tony enjoyed fishing, playing cards, traveling, and dancing to polkas. He loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids and attending their sporting events.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Doris Helle of Edgewood; children, Vickie (Randy) Mescher of Edgewood, Tim (Anne) Helle of Austin, Texas, Jayne (Mark) Bobbin of Toddville, Kathy (Larry) Johnson of Irvine, Calif., and John Helle of Englewood, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, with one on the way; one sister, Toots Bockenstedt of Luxemburg; one sister-in-law, Ardella Helle of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Eileen (Frank) Egloff; two brothers, Donald Helle and Vernon (Mildred) Helle; and one brother-in-law, Cal Bockenstedt.
Because of COVID-19 concerns, masks are required at the funeral home and church.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood, Iowa, with the Rev. John Haugen presiding.
Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood, Iowa, where there will be a 7 p.m. Scripture Service. Friends may also call from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the funeral home.
Interment: St. Mark Catholic Cemetery in Edgewood, Iowa.
