Anne M. (Knowling) Scheetz, 86, of Coralville, passed away Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at Mercy Hospice Care Unit, Iowa City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Iowa City, with Father Robert Cloos officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with a vigil at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Cosgrove. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice or St. Jude's Children Hospital.
Anne was born Feb. 4, 1931, in White Pine, Tenn., the daughter of Jack and Lula (Carter) Knowling. She and her parents moved to Iowa in 1933.
She married Raymond Scheetz at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cosgrove, March 30, 1948. They lived in the Cosgrove area for 12 years, moving to Iowa City in 1960. Together, they started first, a furnace cleaning service, then a construction company, Scheetz Building and Equipment, Inc. They constructed homes, and small business, school and apartment buildings, and were in the rental business for more than 45 years.
Anne was an active volunteer for organizations involving her children, the community and the Democratic party. She served as Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, school volunteer and religious ed teacher. She and Ray were active volunteers for the Democratic party, serving on the Johnson County Central Committee. Anne was a member of Mercy Guild, St. Mary's, Pilot Club of Iowa City and Brucemore.
Anne loved her family dearly and always planned ways for the family to be together on holidays, vacations and any possible time. She belonged to several bridge groups, and especially enjoyed the Double-D Club, of which she was a member for more than 65 years. She and Ray traveled extensively, and she continued this with her children and grandchildren, creating many treasured memories.
She is survived by her daughters, Vicki (Kevin) Woods of Burlington and Christine Scheetz (Kevin Lehman) of North Liberty; son, Randy (Linda) Scheetz of Eldridge; son-in-law, Steve Cash of Cedar Falls; grandchildren, Hollyn (Alex) Rodeck, Liana (Nick) Weiland, Shannon Woods, Rebecca (Allen) Scott, Laura (Jason) Jones, Tim (Ashley) Scheetz, Christopher Cash, Daniel Cash and Nicholas Cash; and great-grandchildren, Jack Rodeck, Lexi Rodeck, Anastasia Scott, Addison Scott and Jayla Jones.
She was preceded in death by Ray, her husband of 58 years; parents; daughter, Cindy Cash; infant son, David; her parents; and a very special aunt and uncle, Bonnie and Kite Knowling.
