Ann L. Welter, 85, died Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart, where she had been a resident for the past two years.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 2, at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, with Pastor Mike Ferguson officiating. Interment will be held at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Friends may call from 9 until 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
Ann was born on Oct. 25, 1932, in Great Falls, Mont., the daughter of Augustine and Viola (Cox) McDermott. She graduated from East High School in Waterloo with the class of 1950. On March 5, 1953, she was united in marriage to Vincent Welter in Waterloo. Ann worked as a clerk at JCPenney in Waterloo for 22 years and lived in Waterloo most of her life, until moving to Vinton in February 2009.
She is survived by her children, Michelle (Jeff) Matheny of Van Horne and Doug Welter of Vinton; her grandchildren, Tony Olson, Tamie Matheny (Paul Erger) and Matt (Stephanie) Matheny; her great-grandchildren, Tate Kettler, Ashlyn and Caden Erger, Nate and Gabe Matheny and Makayla and Makenna Olson; her brothers, Richard (Marie) McDermott and William (Donna) McDermott; her sister-in-law, Lenora McDermott; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vincent; and her brother, Lawrence.
