Anne Margaret Close, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 28, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call Sunday, April 27, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Anne was born May 25, 1922, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Edward Ackley and Helen McGregor. She married Robert Close on March 29, 1945, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He preceded her in death in 2001.
Anne was the last surviving charter member of the ARC (formerly Linn County Area of Retarded Citizens) and she also was a member of The King's Daughters organization. She worked at the Center for the Mentally Handicapped for several years.
She was a devoted caregiver, homemaker, a passionate baseball fan and enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons, Robert Close Jr. and David (Jean) Close, both of Cedar Rapids. Grandchildren include Matthew (Kasia) Close of Greenville, S.C., and Robert Close and Kellie Close, both of Denver, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her brother, Edward Ackley Jr.
