Anna Pearl Miller was born Oct. 9, 1922, near Wellman, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Cora (Yoder) Brenneman. On Dec. 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Verton S. Miller at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. They made their home in the Kalona community, where Pearl worked with Verton on the farm and also worked at the Kalona Cheese Factory. Pearl was a co-founder of the Crowded Closet and was the manager for many years. She was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday school, participated in Mennonite Women and volunteered her time with the Mennonite Relief Sale. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, counted cross-stitch and Jumble puzzles. Pearl passed away on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 95 years.
Pearl is survived by her children, Ken (Chris) Miller of Coralville, Kathy Scheuerman of Iowa City and Donna (Carl) Darby of Iowa City; five grandchildren, Carol (Ryan) Williams, Brian Darby, Tammy (Sam) VanderWoude, Michael Darby and Vanessa (Joe) Hughes; six great-grandchildren, Jacob Williams, Lucas and Elise VanderWoude, and Hugo, Kona and Arlo Hughes; and two sisters, Edith Summers of Iowa City and Goldie Swartzendruber of Pigeon, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Verton; a son-in-law, Sharm Scheuerman; two brothers, Virgil Brenneman and Arden Brenneman; and a sister, Wava Stutzman.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Pastor Don Patterson will officiate. Burial will be in Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa Mennonite School and Lower Deer Creek Women's Ministry.
