Anna May (Harris) Hinton, 98, of Coggon, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Family will greet friends and family from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the funeral home, with Chaplain Bob Westfall officiating. Burial will follow at Coggon Cemetery in Coggon.
Anna was born on Dec. 23, 1923, in Fairview, Mo., the daughter of Ora Arthur and Mary Leva (Luney) Harris. She was raised in Montezuma, Kan., where she played basketball and graduated from Montezuma High School. On June 2, 1944, Anna was united in marriage to Cecil Ware Hinton in Coggon. He preceded her in death in 2001. Anna was a former member of Coggon United Parish and the Quality Ridge Club in Coggon. She was an excellent seamstress, altering wedding gowns and men's suits. Anna was a devoted and loving mother, always making sure all her children were taken care of. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Anna is survived and lovingly remembered by her four children, Beverly (Joel Halterman) Scanlon of St. Louis, Mo., Arthur Hinton of Coggon, Iowa, Bruce (Lisa) Hinton of Winter Spring, Fa., and April Hinton (Jeff Wokurka) of Ottawa, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, Corey (Debra) Waters, Samuel (Christy) Hinton, Sarah (Jon) Paole, Christopher (Lydia) Hinton, Matthew Hinton, Justin Hinton, Shelby Hinton (Jake Stechcon), Levi Hinton, Christina Klein, Anna Halm, Laura Halm and Kendra Ferguson; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Rubie Stoecker of Carmichael, Calif.; nine nieces; and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ora Arthur and Mary Leva Harris; husband, Cecil Hinton; daughter, Cathy Hinton; granddaughter, Kendra Keeney; four sisters, Irene Lohmeyer, Nadiene Gray, Noriene Merrell, and Georgia Robinson; brother, Clifford Luney; and three nephews.
