Anna M. Dwyer passed aware peacefully at Brookdale Senior Living on Nov. 25, 2015. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, with a vigil service beginning at 5:30 p.m., and one hour before the service. The Rev. John R. Flaherty will officiate. Burial: St. John's Cemetery.
Anna was born June 16, 1915, to John and Stella Blazek in Bertram, Iowa. She had three sisters and two brothers. She celebrated her 100th birthday with a reception at Brookdale, with family and friends, and included a TV interview.
Anna was married to John Dwyer on April 2, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, where they lived their entire life. In 2013, John and Anna received recognition for being the longest married couple in Iowa (78 years). In all, they celebrated 79 years of marriage.
She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and a very active member of Young at Heart. Anna greatly enjoyed the boat rides she received.
Anna was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to make kolaches, crochet and made beautiful quilts. She also volunteered at her church bazaar each year until in her 80s. She was very thoughtful of others and always there for her family and friends.
She is survived by three children, Gary (Relda) and Tom Dwyer, Cedar Rapids, and Corrine Ehlers, Lincoln, Calif. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John (Jack); grandsons, Danny Dwyer and Jeffrey Ehlers; her parents; three sisters; two brothers; four brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy in memory of Anna.
