Anna C. Klimes, 97, of Neenah, WI, formerly of Waunakee, WI, Cedar Rapids and Ely, IA, passed away peacefully December 22, 2024, at Valley VNA in Neenah, WI.
With the assistance of Westgor Funeral Homes, Neenah, WI, Celebration of Life will be held on December 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, 520 Wilson Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, IA. The burial will take place after the service at Sulek Cemetery, rural Shueyville, IA, across the road from Anna’s birthplace home.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Sellers (Richard) Drake of Monticello, IA, and Janice Stone Michel of Greenville, WI; granddaughters, Anita Sellers of Waunakee, WI, and Hollee Stone (Thomas) McInnis of Neenah, WI; great-grandchildren, Berkley, Jonathan and Joseph McInnis of Neenah, WI; nephew and niece, Richard (Sue) Rocarek of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Lorna (Roy) Jones of Urbandale IA; stepchildren, and many more nieces and nephews on her husband’s side of the family.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Libble Louvar; husband, Lumir Klimes; son-in-law, Jeffrey Michel; sisters and brothers-in-law, Leona and Marvin Rocarek, Irene and Leo Petrik, and many more brothers- and sisters-in-law on her husband’s side of the family. Anna was very close to her maternal grandparents Frank M. and Anna Ludvicek Pirkl who lived in the Swisher area.
Anna was born August 20, 1927, on her family farm near Shueyville, IA. She graduated from Shueyville High School in 1945. Anna met Lumir when she was young at Sunday family and neighbor gatherings. When she was in her late teens, Lumir approached her at DanceMor Ballroom in Swisher. The
rest is a 63-year love story history. On January 15, 1947, Anna married Lumir Klimes at the Presbyterian Church in Oscelo, AR. They purchased a farm just outside the southern city limits in Ely, IA. Anna was a loving housewife and mother raising two daughters. Her hobbies included her love to sew, making several bridesmaids, recital dresses and outfits for her daughters, granddaughters and family friends, and crafting. As a farm wife, she hand-milked a cow daily, raised chickens, gardened, and preserved her garden’s bounty. She was an excellent cook, always trying new recipes, made kolaches and pies. She was a prosperous businesswomen selling eggs, strawberries, cherries, raspberries, and pumpkins to various residents around Ely and Cedar Rapids. She was caretaker to her mother, mother-in-law, and friends in their senior years. Anna was a member of the Ely Rebekah Lodge #56 and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ely, IA. After her son-in-law’s death, Anna accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. This is not goodbye, as we will see you later in Heaven. Anna and Lumir were very hard working, and also enjoyed traveling, polka dances and casinos in their later years. Anna was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. In 2008, Anna and Lumir moved off the family farm and into a retirement center in Cedar Rapids, IA. After Lumir passing in 2010, Anna moved to Waunakee, WI, then Neenah, WI, to be near her youngest daughter, two granddaughters and spend time with her three great-grandchildren.
Anna and her family have deep appreciation for those who cared for her with respect and thoughtfulness, including the excellent staff at Valley VNA, with whom she was with for 7 years, and Heartland Hospice.
