Anna E. Buelow, 97, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown, with the Rev. David Rempfer officiating. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Newhall. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home in Blairstown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church.
Anna Elizabeth Happel was born Sept. 24, 1917, to Henry and Elizabeth (Krug) Happel, on the family farm near Vinton. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1935. She was united in marriage to Leo W. Buelow on Aug. 23, 1942, in Vinton. Anna worked at Bird's Hardware Store while her husband was serving in World War II. Following his return, she began a lifelong career of working side by side with her husband on the farm. Leo preceded her in death in 2007.
Anna was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown, where she enjoyed membership in the Fellowship Club and Ladies Aid.
She loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they always brought a twinkle to her eye.
Anna is survived by her son, Terry (Terri) Buelow of Newhall; her daughters, Betty Buelow King of Cedar Rapids and Judy (Ron) Comried of Monticello; her grandchildren, Greg (Carrie) Buelow, Julie (Mike) Kasper and Whitney Comried; and three great-grandchildren, Natalie Buelow, Lucas and Allison Kasper.
In addition to her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by her brothers, sisters, and her grandson, Austin Comried.
