Ann Stanek, 91, passed away on Aug. 11, 2022, at West Ridge Care Center. As per Ann’s wishes, the family will be holding a private graveside service.
Survivors include daughter, Becky Stanek Filipovich of Minneapolis; sons, Mark Stanek and Rick (Diane) Stanek of Cedar Rapids; grandsons, Skye and Christian Stanek; sisters, Dolores Faley and Judy (Jim) Leonard; and brother, Larry (Mic) Fox.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Ralph Fox; husband, Dick Stanek; son-in-law, Geno Filipovich; two brothers and one sister.
Ann was born in Osage, Iowa, on June 13, 1931. She grew up on the Fox family farm in rural Orchard, Iowa. She graduated as Orchard High School’s valedictorian in 1949. She moved to Cedar Rapids after high school and worked at Collins Radio. She married Dick on Sept. 25, 1954. Together they owned and operated Dairy Queen #2 on First Avenue West. She was an excellent cook and baker, and enjoyed hosting family gatherings, especially on holidays. Ann was a proud supporter of S.t Jude’s, LaSalle and Xavier, where her children and grandsons attended. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her, especially the lights of her life, Skye and Christian.
A special thank-you to the staff at Stony Point Meadows for their wonderful care of Ann during the last year.
