Ann Elizabeth Slattery Smothers was born December 20, 1946 to Thomas William and Bessie Louise Hudson Slattery in Chicago, Illinois.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Saturday, January 6, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday from 4 PM to 6 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. The service will be live streamed on the St. Mary Church Iowa City website.
Contributions in Ann's name may be directed to the U of I Foundation Old Capitol Endowment Fund or St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Ann was a 1965 graduate of Regina High School and Iowa City Commercial College. Attended the University of Iowa and Iowa Central Community College. She was employed by Northwestern Bell, The State of Iowa, Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh Paint and Glass and The University of Iowa at Old Capitol Museum. Ending her career as Director.
On December 3, 1965 Ann was united in marriage to Terry Alan Smothers at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City.
Ann is survived by her husband Terry, daughter Jennifer Louise (Ron) Brida of Landisville, Pennsylvania, son Anthony William (Joan) Smothers of Iowa City, Iowa. Six grandchildren, Logan Miller, Hudson Coccoluto, Lauren, Jacob, Olivia, and Claire Smothers. And four brothers, Leo (Stephanie) Slattery, Houston, Texas, James (Tom Freitag) Slattery, M.D. Mazomanie, Wisconsin, Edward (Sue) Slattery, Swisher, Iowa, Tim (Jean) Slattery, Hudson, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary (Diane), Connie (Bob) Pierce, Dennis (Tamara), David (Lori) and Betsy Smothers; twenty-one nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas William and Bessie Louise (Hudson) Slattery, daughter Amy Marie Smothers, grandson Colin Arthur Miller, her in-laws, Robert K. and Berniece (Patera) Smothers, and brother-inÂlaw, Kevin Smothers.
