Ann E. Howell, 67, of Atkins, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, Aug. 14, 2023, 10 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church. A one hour visitation will be held at the church prior to the service beginning at 9 a.m.
Ann Elizabeth Wagner was born on May 13, 1956, in Cedar Rapids to Dr. Donald and Verna (Kuncl) Wagner. She was a graduate of Benton Community High School and Iowa State University. She was united in marriage to Stephen Howell on June 28, 1980. Ann taught third grade at Benton Community Schools for 34 years before retiring in 2012. She was involved with the All Saints Catholic Church Quilting Group and the St Stephen’s Lutheran Church Quilting Group. Ann served as a volunteer for Care Initiatives Hospice and fulfilled her lifelong commitment to education by tutoring for many years after her retirement.
Ann was a kind and generous person who had a passion for giving back to others. Her compassion made an impact on so many lives. She had a gift for making everyone she met feel special.
Ann is survived by her husband, Steve; daughter, Alyssa Howell (Sara Potapenko); son, Ryan (Suzi) Howell; granddaughter, Adelyn Howell; siblings, Mary (Jerry) Nixon, John (Diane) Wagner, Mike Wagner, Carol (Monte) Dick, Laura (Larry) Zalesky, Donna (Dan) Dunbar, David (Heike) Wagner, Julie (Geoff) Duncan; 20 nieces and nephews; and dogs, Daisy and Dolly.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
